Activities and Recreation Center

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Urbana, Illinois

The four-phase expansion and renovation is a complete upgrade to the facility.  New coined the ARC, this building is the cornerstone of Campus Recreation.  It not only houses some of the finest fitness facilities including free weights, selectorized machines, and an abundance of cardiovascular training machines; but it is also home to just about every recreational activity on campus.

The ARC project added strength and conditioning space, a climbing wall, a 1/6-mile indoor track, sundeck, an auditorium, a wellness center, and a display kitchen.  The facility includes 13 basketball courts and eight multipurpose rooms and amenities such as a 12-person spa on the west side of the building.

Henneman Engineering provided MEP and fire protection design.  Electrical work included re-working existing medium voltage distribution to the existing main double-ended substation, changing out transformer coils inside existing substation structure, and renovating entire 480V distribution system throughout the building.
