Health Science Center - Center for Bio Health Commissioning and TAB

University of North Texas

Fort Worth, Texas

In late 2011, Henneman Engineering was contracted by the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) to provide commissioning and TAB services for the Level 6 finish-out at the Center for Bio-Health (CBH) in Fort Worth, Texas. The project was a “fast track” delivery in which Henneman Engineering was added to the project team fairly late in the construction phase and had to ramp up quickly to meet critical schedule deadlines. In conjunction and close coordination with the owner, A/E professionals, and construction team, Henneman worked diligently to review the construction drawings and identify potential Cx issues that needed immediate attention.

The Cx and TAB project scope included HVAC systems for the biomedical research areas, forensic labs, lab support spaces, and animal vivarium. Specialty laboratory air valves were installed that employ sophisticated airflow tracking control sequences and continuous pressure monitoring for critical zones. Spaces with laboratory exhaust hoods or requirements for high volumes of ventilation air were outfitted with carbon dioxide air monitoring stations which helped reduce energy use in the laboratory air valve system. In addition, a supplemental chilled water loop and back-up air handling unit were included for emergency use when the facility’s primary air supply system is unavailable or offline.
