Building on 60 Years of Success
Since its founding, Henneman Engineering has transformed from a small group of engineers in Champaign, Illinois, to a firm with engineers and technical employees in four Midwest cities. Projects range from engineering studies to $200 million building facilities. The mission of Henneman has remained the same: to provide innovative, cost-effective, and quality engineering solutions that are responsive to clients’ needs in a professional and profitable manner.
Engineering has always been a Henneman family tradition with roots in electrical engineering and construction going back to the 1910s in Chicago. In 1961, Ralph Henneman founded predecessor firm, Henneman Carroll, in Urbana, Illinois, with partner Raymond Carroll. In 1976, Ralph Henneman & Associates, Inc. was born, which continues on as Henneman Engineering, Inc. today.
Early in Henneman’s history, the firm developed many significant relationships that helped establish it as a leader in the areas of healthcare, higher education, and government. These key relationships were built on trust and longevity, paving the way for Henneman’s future growth.
One of Henneman’s first healthcare-related projects was for Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, in the early 1970s. This led to other projects in the healthcare industry and helped to establish Henneman as an expert in the field.
One of the firm’s early projects outside of Illinois was for the Army Corps of Engineers during which Henneman completed a project for the Ballistic Missile System in San Bernardino, California. In addition, Henneman has always had strong ties to The University of Illinois where the firm has completed many projects. This helped build Henneman’s reputation in higher education and led to many other projects with universities throughout the country.
Over the years, Henneman has grown and expanded through a variety of mergers and acquisitions. In 1982, the firm became Henneman, Raufeisen and Associates when Al Raufeisen joined ownership.
In 1995, Henneman purchased and merged with S & R Engineering of Urbana, Illinois. Five years later, the firm purchased Jaspal Engineering Services of Madison, Wisconsin, establishing Henneman Jaspal Engineering Services in 2000. In 2005, the firm changed its name to Henneman Engineering to highlight its strengths as a multi-disciplined engineering firm.
In 1997, a new growth strategy was implemented with the formation of the Industrial Technology Group (ITG). ITG specializes in industrial projects, including power generation plants, ethanol, and biodiesel facilities, and works with large clients including Caterpillar and Kraft Heinz.
Henneman Engineering operates five offices in the Midwest: two offices in Champaign, Illinois; Madison, Wisconsin; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Lafayette, Indiana. It is set apart by the outstanding team of professionals throughout its offices – many of whom have been with the firm more than 10 and 20 years. Henneman’s team of engineers combines innovation, energy efficiency, and safety to offer a full range of services, including mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering; plumbing and fire protection design; commissioning; and information technology. We have successfully completed projects in the fields of energy, education, healthcare, industry, commerce, and government. Henneman also is focused on mentoring new talent and creating opportunities for young engineers.
Henneman Engineering has continued to evolve in order to meet our clients’ needs. Today, this includes working with clients to create or renovate structures that are energy efficient, sustainable, and prepared for the challenges of a 21st century economy. Henneman is honored to be among a handful of American engineering firms granted ISO 9001 certification, a designation that reflects our dedication to excellence at all levels of our work.
It is Henneman Engineering’s commitment to excellence in engineering and ability to build long-term client relationships and evolve to meet our clients’ needs that has led the firm to a long history of success.
