Caterpillar Engine Power Plant
Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada
Caterpillar is developing a turnkey power plant, utilizing ten Cat® G16CM34 natural gas generator sets, for Alberta Newsprint Company (ANC) in Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada. Caterpillar’s medium-speed, reciprocating engine generator sets, known for their operational flexibility and efficiency, will provide ANC with 65 MW of total output capacity, making it Caterpillar’s largest power plant installation in Canada.
The construction of the power plant is necessary to provide ANC with cost-effective power during peak hours. ANC’s mill and processing plant operate 24-hours per day and require 125 MW of power to produce approximately 824 tons of newsprint rolled products daily. The Caterpillar developed power plant will enable the facility, already one of the most efficient newsprint producers in North America, to generate more than half of its own power during peak hours. Any excess energy produced by the ANC’s power plant can be sold back to the grid.
ITG is providing mechanical, electrical, structural and piping and instrumentation diagram design for the new gas fired power plant.
