Basin Creek Energy, LLC, Basin Creek Generation Plant
Butte, Montana
The new 51.8-megawatt Basin Creek power plant will supply power to NorthWestern Energy during peak demand and will supplement wind farms and coal-fired plants. The natural-gas fired plant, which has been more than three years in the making, is being built south of Butte, Montana. It is Montana’s first energy generation project in 22 years. The new plant showcases cutting-edge technology, cooperation between corporations and environmentalists, and old-fashioned persistence.
The project is configured around nine Caterpillar G16CM34 natural gas-fired reciprocating engines and constructed under a fixed price turnkey contract with Caterpillar Power Generation Systems, LLC (CPGS). Operations and maintenance of the plant will also be provided by CPGS Construction. ITG provided mechanical and electrical engineering and construction services for the project through CPGS.
