Illinois Executive Mansion

Henneman Engineering provided complete engineering services for the $10M renovation of this historic structure, parts of which date back to 1855. Renovations needed to be sensitive to the historic character of the building, and yet provide amenities of a 21^st Century working building, which includes a public museum and reception-type spaces for visitors, working office spaces, and an apartment for the First Family. 

New HVAC systems were installed that provide energy efficiency and zoned comfort, while achieving LEED Silver status. Historic works of art will be displayed for public viewing in the mansion, and DDC temperature and humidity controls were installed to meet National Park Service Museum standards.  Existing historic lighting fixtures were refurbished or replaced with LED lamps to contribute to the energy savings.

A new building-wide fire alarm and security system was installed that protects the safety of the occupants and the State’s historic building and artifacts. A new wet-pipe sprinkler system was installed in the attic.

All new MEP systems were carefully integrated into the architectural fabric to become almost invisible and to maintain the historic character of a building that Lincoln and Grant frequently visited and is an important monument to our State’s history.
