Illinois Central College, Student Success Center
East Peoria, Illinois
The academic support services centers at Illinois Central College had not been updated in some years, and the learning labs had fallen behind in technology and functionality. The learning labs are the primary labs utilized by students to improve their academic achievement. This new state-of-the-art Student Success Center combines all previous academic support centers with the College’s Library/Learning Resource Center (LRC), creating a centralized area to assist students with all their academic needs.
Design of the Student Success Center required renovations to the previous library area, including relocation of all learning labs within and adjacent to the Library/Learning Resource Center. The total reconfigured area was approximately 37,000 square feet located within the existing library and the adjacent area. Green technology was an important consideration for the renovated space, and applicable LEED principles were incorporated into the design. The center incorporates learning laboratories, a reconfigured library, art gallery and a variety of study and engagement areas to address a wide range of student needs. Bringing the learning labs, composed of academic support for reading, writing, math, tutoring, and specific subject areas, under one umbrella provides a more convenient space for the students and gives the College opportunities for greater efficiencies.
Henneman Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, structural, and plumbing/fire protection engineering design services. Tilton, Kelly + Bell was the architect and planner for the project.
