The Williams Fieldhouse Addition provides space to expand wellness, fitness, and recreational opportunities on the UW-Platteville campus. The new addition supports student club sports, intramural sports, open recreation, varsity sports, and the Physical Education Department. It includes four multi-purpose playing courts with an elevated track, cross fit training spaces, free weight area, performance weight area, training center, track locker rooms, cardio spaces, storage, showers, and restrooms. The project renovated an existing air handling unit with a new cooling coil for additional cooling and added two new variable volume air handling units with reheat. Stratification fans and low return strategies were incorporated into the gymnasium design to ensure exceptional temperature control is achieved at all levels within the gym. The project included construction of an outdoor, multi-sport, artificial turf field with sports lighting.

System Improvements

• Variable volume heating and cooling with zone control allows each space independent temperature control
• LED lighting installed throughout the fieldhouse designed to eliminate shadows associated with aerobic and anaerobic training
• Demand control ventilation greatly reduces outside air requirements within the expansive gym
• Facility scheduling capabilities to capture energy savings when spaces are not being used
• High velocity discharge in the gym forces air to the floor and eliminates condensation on exterior windows
