Iowa State University, Coover Electrical Engineering
This facility has approximately 108,700 gross square feet of new and renovated space that provides new or remodeled spaces for teaching and research labs, classrooms, faculty and graduate student offices, student-centered learning areas and renewed central public spaces. Additionally, the project corrected mechanical and electrical system deficiencies and non-compliant code and ADA concerns. The project budget has been set at $26,150,000 which includes phased building construction, site utilities, relocation of present site activities, equipment, design services, project administration and project contingency.
As a part of the building addition project, new chilled water distribution lines were needed but capacity was lacking in the immediate area. ISU’s master utility plan consisted of future 24-inch chilled water lines to be routed on the north end of the building connecting two separate distributions systems, thus providing capacity for Coover Hall. The chilled water work consisted of the installation of almost 1,000 linear feet of 24-inch chilled water supply and return and almost 300 feet of 8-inch chilled water supply and return.
This power and data intensive building includes:
- Computer instructional labs
- Electronic dry labs
- Traditional classrooms and offices
- Collaborative space with wireless data ability for “hands-on” education
Henneman Engineering was responsible for all programming, design, bidding and construction phase services for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, and information technology systems.
