Purdue University, McCutcheon Hall
West Lafayette, Indiana
The McCutcheon Hall ACM-1 replacement project entailed the demolition of existing air-handling unit ACM-1 in the basement of the McCutcheon Residence Hall and replacement with a new air-handling unit compliant with current standards and codes. The existing air-handling unit was a multi-zone unit that served 12 zones surrounding the mechanical room and was replaced with a new variable air volume air-handling unit. The existing zones were provided with new variable air volume boxes and hot water reheat. Hot water is generated and circulated through a new hot water loop by the existing low-pressure steam system through a new heat exchanger and new hot water pumps.
The air-handling unit ACM-1 was replaced over the summer during which housing staff and University personnel occupied the space and student conferences took place in the building. Henneman needed to create provisions for the use of the space during the unit replacement and coordinate those provisions with the needs of Purdue University and the installing contractor.
Henneman Engineering was responsible for complete mechanical, electrical, and fire protection design of systems connected to ACM-1 as well as construction administration.
